Quick Baby Update

My original due date, September 26th, came and went...no baby.
Back when we had the ultrasound to determine the baby's gender, the due date got backed up a couple days because of the measurements. That date was today....still no baby.
I had a doctor's appointment today. There hasn't been much progress to speak of really. The doctor said I MIGHT be a little more than 1 cm, but still only 50% effaced. So it looks like I'll be heading in for an induction this Thursday.
I guess I could always test the castor oil theory. One of my friends suggested it, and it's really the only natural induction method I haven't been brave enough to try in the past. And believe me, I've tried just about everything anyone suggests. Going for long walks, Eggplant Parmesean, spicy foods, I could go on and on. Nothing works. Anyone else tried and had success with castor oil? How long does it take for it to take effect? I just wonder if it might be worth it.

And I'm sure you've noticed that I continue to refer to him as "the baby." We are still leaning toward Ryan Matthew. It's the name we tell everyone, but for some reason, neither of us are 100% convinced that's the name we want to go with. I'm not sure what our problem is with this whole name issue. I guess we'll just have to look at him and see if it fits. :)

Just 3 cute comments Allison made yesterday:

1. After sneezing and not getting a response she said, "Someone please tell me 'bless you.'"

2. She put on Tyler's flip flops and said, "Mommy, I'm 4 now!"

3. Tyler was playing with a noisy dinosaur while Allison was trying to go to sleep. I told him, "Tyler, please stop that. Allison is trying to go to sleep." Allison chimes in from the other room and says, "And you're not being very quiet, Tywer!"

Updates

The Blazer:
Great news! Since the sun came out and dried up all the rain yesterday, my dad and Billy's friend came over to help him get the Blazer back up and running. They only got the one side fixed (in my original post I accidentally said it was the right side, but it was actually the driver's side that broke - but I'm sure you all overlooked my mistake anyway!) ;) I so don't understand mechanical lingo, so I didn't tell what happened to cause the tire to fall off in my last post. In case you are curious (and can decipher what it means), Billy said that "the lower A-arm broke apart from the ball joint." Eventually the other side is going to need to be replaced as well or the same thing could happen all over again. I'll be praying it doesn't happen while he's driving on the freeway before he's able to get to it!

The Baby:
At Monday's appointment, I was still only dilated 1 cm, but I AM 50% effaced. So, though it's not much, we're making some progress! The doctor did "strip my membranes," which caused a little cramping that evening, but nothing else so far. I'll keep my fingers crossed! :)

When it Rains, it POURS...literally and figuratively

We have had a crazy amount of rain here for the past few days, and today it all came to a head! Since our creek had already been sounding like the rapids of the Mississippi River, I knew this was bound to happen...

All it took was non-stop rain through the entire night and morning for it to start to pour across our driveway and yard!
Immediately upon waking up this morning, Allison comments "I hear the rain. Let me go see." So she goes to the window and is silent as she peers out for a few moments. Then she comments again, "Wook Mommy, it's a waterfall!" Sure enough...

So we have a river in our front yard...
and the makings of a lake in the back!

We're actually very blessed that, even with all this rain, we have minimal water in our basement, and are really only having to deal with some very annoying leaks in our sunroom. If you've ever considered owning a house with a sunroom - DON'T!

Even though the water damage isn't too excessive for us, we have had it "pouring" in other areas. On Friday evening, we were out running errands in the Blazer. It kept making terrible popping sounds in the front everytime Billy turned it, and he told me that the front end was going to need some work. Well, that work has come sooner than we would have liked. Upon arriving home, Billy was backing up to park when all of a sudden there was one final LOUD pop, and then the front end on the driver's side hit the ground! The tire had broken off, and there we sat. Needless to say, we said a prayer of thanks for our safety that night. We were very blessed this happened in our driveway rather than while we were going down the freeway at 70+ mph!

Only problem now is, we are down one car until all this rain stops so that Billy is able to fix it! Let's hope this baby doesn't decide to make his debut while I'm at home carless! Fun times!

Almost Here!

My most favorite season and my fall baby will be here before I know it! Fall officially starts on Tuesday, and my little man is due in less than a week!
I just love fall and everything that comes with it - the colorful falling leaves that eventually crunch under my feet, the cooler, crisp weather, pumpkins, candy apples...I could go on and on. And what to make it even more special this year than our new addition! Although it may take longer than a week for him to actually make his debut, I am getting so anxious to meet and hold him and see what he looks like.
Last Monday at my doctor visit, I was MAYBE dilated to 1 cm, so not much progress. I have my weekly appointment scheduled for tomorrow, so we'll see if anything has changed. I'm not holding my breath though. This is a very typical pattern with my pregnancies. I'm sure this little guy would just take up permanent residence inside me like Tyler and Allison both wished to do. So if he doesn't decide to get here on his own before October 2, an induction will be planned once again. Not what I would like to have happen, but what do you do? I'll keep you posted!

Babysitting

Among Tyler's growing collection of turtles are a couple miniature ones that are very easily misplaced. We are constantly searching for Popsi-pickles since, of course, he's one of the favorites. Last night, Tyler was playing with the other mini one he has (who doesn't have a name yet), and asked me to keep an eye on him for a few minutes. Allison also loves these little guys and asked if she could hold on to it for a little while. Being the responsible babysitter that I am, I asked Tyler if it would be okay if Allison could see it for a few minutes. Then the following conversation took place:

Tyler: Sure, until I count to 11. Then tell Allison to give him back to you. 1, 2, 3...
Allison (feeling frantic as Tyler gets closer to 11): NOOO! I want to hold it!
Me: It's okay, Tyler. You aren't playing with him right now. Just let her hold him for a little while.
Tyler: But I want YOU to keep an eye on him for me.
Me: Well, Allison's a good babysitter. Let her keep an eye on him for you.
Tyler: But...you have a bigger eye!
